Assistive Technology-Flip Camera

A Flip Camera is a great tool to use in the classroom as assistive technology. They are easy to use and our school library has two that teachers can check out and use in their classroom. Flip cameras can be used to help students who have trouble witting or speaking. Below I will list a few examples and attach a video with some more.

Flip cameras can be used for students to video a lecture given by a teacher. This will be very helpful for students who have trouble taking notes or witting quickly. They can record the lecture, watch later and write as they go. Flip cameras can also be used for students to create videos to show understanding of a concept or book they read. This works well for students who have trouble writing reports or drawing. They can uses their creativity and act to show understanding. There are many uses for flip cameras in the classroom. Please watch the video below to see more options for flip cameras.

MLK Podcast

The "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. is a story we study in our Reading, Taking a Stand unit. We read the parts of the speech and get to hear it in Dr. King's voice but this podcast is a video. This will reach my visual learners, so they can see Dr. King speak and the emotion on others faces. I will use this in my class as an extension of the story we read together. I believe my students will really enjoy watching this podcast.

ISAT Practice Website

Prepdog!
The following website is a great resource to help students prepare and practice for ISATs. It is a FREE site called www.prepdog.com. When you visit the site for the first time click on the grade level that the student is in, then go to practice tests. Pick a subject, then begin with a basic test and work your way to proficient and then possibly advanced. The questions on these paractice tests are very similar to those on the ISAT. Taking these practice tests are great for student to practice testing on the computer. After completing a test, look at the results try to pracitce any you missed. Bring questions to class so we can discuss them together. Have fun testing on prepdog!
